Bula / Hello Everyone! That’s a wrap for Fiji 20, 21, ‘22 I hope you all got home safely from Fiji or your subsequent travels in the South Pacific or Australia/NZ! What an amazing week we had! It was great to see the Diving For Life family come back together after COVID and do what we do best – dive, celebrate & raise money. Thank you to anyone who bought raffle tickets, bid at the auctions or sold raffle tickets. It was through your generosity that we raised USD$110,000, which will get distributed via your dive club nominations, to health charities that cater to LGBTQ+ needs in your local area. The board has green lit a draft proposal to modify the way in which funds are distributed; we hope this will reflect the modern nature of the organization, and will allow every attendee to have a say in what charities receive the funds. We will be using this new process from 2023 onwards. Stay tuned for a future eBlast that will explain this. Remember- you can help DFL throughout the year by using Amazon Smile and American Airlines Business ExtrAA. As a volunteer organization, there are many people who work behind the scene during the year to make an event successful. As we have communicated recently, the Board has decided that in light of the ongoing COVID situation around the world, all participants of Diving For Life 2022 in Fiji must be up to date with their COVID vaccinations. Please note: it is currently a requirement of Fiji Airlines and the Fijian government that all travelers are fully vaccinated. The DFL Board considers the health and safety of all our participants of the utmost importance. Please log in to your DFL member account and visit your “My Jamboree Registration” page to confirm or cancel your registration.Please decide by March 31 so that we can open any remaining spots to those on the waitlist. For two years now we have been waiting to be able to get together as the Diving For Life family. With the world getting vaccination and putting procedures in place for international travel, we can look forward to DFL 2022 in FIJI–Our 29th annual gathering. As you may have seen announced on Facebook, the Board recently held our Annual General Meeting via Zoom. After 15 years of service to the Diving For Life community, David Doom stepped down from the Presidency and the Board. David will still be a face at DFL–the DOOM REPORT may yet live! I want to personally thank David for all the work he has performed behind the scenes to ensure that DFL remains the successful and preeminent not-for-profit LGBTQ+ SCUBA event that it is. Our new Board member is Jeff Tennant. Jeff and his partner Bruce have attended many DFLs and are well known to you all. Jeff will be a great board member. FIJI SUNDAY OCT 9 – 16 Many of you have been patient and rolled your registration over so that at this point we have no diver positions available. We, the organisers, are waiting until early in the new year to allocate everyone to their rooms, after which we will do a final call on cancellations. 29th Annual Diving For Life 2022, The Pearl Resort, Fiji We are happy to announce the new dates for Diving For Life 2022 in Fiji at the Pearl Resort, Pacific Harbour on world famous Beqa Lagoon. The only details that have changed for the cancelled / postponed 2021 event, are the dates! Your accommodation and diving packages remain the same. DFL 2022 FIJISunday Oct. 9 – 16, 2022 However, we need every registered participant to log into their DFL account and confirm or cancel their registration by completing the Roll It or Refund It form as soon as possible. If you have not already submitted the form, you will find a link on the “My Jamboree Registration” page. Registration for new attendees (if we have any vacancies) will take place later in 2022. UPDATE ON DFL 2021 Fiji Hi Folks, Recently the Diving For Life Board met to discuss our up coming trip to Fiji in October. Fiji has had very low instances of COVID in the community. In fact flights into the country are grounded, and only returning Fijians are allowed into the country. Recently, Covid escaped for a quarantine hotel (when a citizen returns they have to spend 2 weeks in mandatory hotel quarantine) and got into the community. This one case turned into 4, and two major cities were locked down ( a government enforced stay at home order). Snap lock downs are a common thing in some countries, and cannot be predicted. Right now, it cannot be said when flights will resume into Fiji. In fact Australia is now not opening our borders until 2022. Even if we could get into Fiji, we don’t know what restrictions would be put on an event of our size. We couldn’t guarantee that we can hold a Diving For Life as we have in the past. The Board therefore has taken the decision to postpone Fiji once again until 2022 ( third times a charm). We are working with the resort and dive operator on the contractual impacts. Similar to last year we are also working on an election process to Roll over your registration, or Refund it. Once we have the technical side worked out, we will contact you again.
